Enslaved Individuals: Mary Louisa

Mary Louisa

Documented History

Mary Louisa was a resident of Page County, Virginia, in 1845; she is listed as one of seven enslaved individuals in an inventory of the estate of Daniel Strickler taken in June of that year. She was sold to John Lionberger in June of 1845.

Speculations

Mary Louisa is referred to as a child in estate documents in 1845, suggesting she was born between 1832 and 1845. A mulatto girl of fourteen, a Black girl of ten, and a Black girl of four are listed in John Lionberger’s household in Page County on the 1850 slave census; one of the two older girls may be Mary Louisa.

Connections

Andrew, Arthur, Edmund, Mary Louisa, Sarah, and Rebecca were enslaved along with Mary Louisa in the household of Daniel Strickler as of 1845.
