Enslaved Individuals: Arthur

Arthur

Documented History

Arthur was a resident of Page County, Virginia, as a child in 1845; he is listed as one of seven enslaved individuals in an inventory of the estate of Daniel Strickler taken in June of that year. Strickler owned a farm near Luray, and it is likely that Arthur was involved in agriculture there. He was sold to Strickler’s son Isaac Strickler when the estate was settled in June 1845; no further records have been found.

Speculations

Arthur is listed as a boy in the documents associated with Strickler’s estate, suggesting he was born sometime between 1832 and 1845.

Connections

Andrew, Edmund, Mary, Mary Louisa, Sarah, and Rebecca were enslaved along with Arthur in the household of Daniel Strickler as of 1845.
