Enslaved Individuals: Harrison

Harrison

Documented History

Harrison was the son of Ann and an unknown mother, born in Page County in September 1856 and remaining a resident of Page County, Virginia, in 1860. He is named in documents related to Mary Brumback’s estate in June of that year, when he would have been less than four years old. These same documents indicate that he was sold to Mary’s son John in the settlement of the estate. No further documentation of Harrison’s life has yet been found.

Speculations

As Harrison is listed as a boy in estate records in 1860, it is likely he was born after 1845.

A woman and child are listed along with Harrison in the records of Mary Brumback’s estate. These individuals are very likely Harrison’s mother Ann and his infant brother Ambrose.

Connections

An unnamed mother and child were enslaved along with Harrison in 1860.
